How cold was the Earth during the ice ages?

During the most major Ice Age, about 650,000 years ago, global average temperatures dropped by about 9 degrees F or 5 degrees C.  This was a big enough shift to cause sea levels to drop by about 400 feet and to cover extensive areas, such as all of today’s Canada and northern USA, with a giant sheet of ice.  This Ice Age lasted about 50,000 years.
