Steelhead salmon are dwindling in number due to the shrinking availability of freshwater streams and climate changes. Their natural habitats are being invaded by foreign species that also alter the natural state of affairs. The NOAA Fisheries clarifies that only one distinct population segment of steelhead salmon are endangered while other population segments remain at a threatened level. Additional information on the locations and levels of extinction can be found at: http://www.nwr.noaa.gov/ESA-Salmon-Listings/Salmon-Populations/Steelhead/Index.cfm
