As a signatory of the Convention on the International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), China is making progress in mitigating the illegal trade of protected species. One way it has been effective is through regulating e-commerce by monitoring and deleting any online auctions of endangered species; investigations into the sources of the online auctions follow. Another way they have been effective is through labeling Asian big cats raised in captivity with microchips to prevent illegal breeding for the purpose of selling the offspring. They have also enhanced the control of big cat furs by taking inventory and registering animal furs and other products with provincial governments while utilizing an ad campaign that discourages illegal fur trading.
