How is Chevron planning on paying for getting all of the Ecuadorians sick when they polluted the Amazon rainforest?

Sadly, this case is looking to get increasingly murkier as the trial proceeds. Back in 2009 two businessmen apparently used hidden cameras to document attempts to bribe Ecuadorian officials in an apparent attempt to entrap the Ecuadorians and make their side of the story look bad. Bribery is illegal in the US, while videotaping someone without permission is illegal in Ecuador. Hopefully this won’t impede the trial, which will decide whether or not the people affected by Chevron’s messy oil extraction are entitled to about $27 billion, which if it succeeded would be the most damages ever imposed for an environmental suit.
