How cheap is coal power per KW generated?

Well, coal has typically been regarded as a cheap source of energy for years. Generally, coal was believed to cost about 4.5 cents per kwH, but that figure has changed in light of recent research. Coal contributes heavily to health problems, including asthma and other respiratory issues. If you factor in the external costs of health problems caused by coal, it costs nearly twice as much at about 8 cents per kwH. Quite a difference!
