For one thing, cell phones often contain toxic chemicals, and like anything with toxic chemicals in it, when improperly disposed of(very few are recycled, because most people don’t know how to) they can leach into soil or groundwater and poison the environment around the disposal site. However, the EU has started imposing strict standards in order to eliminate these toxic metals, which will most likely cut down on their use in cell phones worldwide, as it is too complicated to build cellphones to different standards so it is easiest to build it to the strictest ones. Soon cell phones won’t be built containing lead, cadmium, beryllium, mercury, and BFRs.
