How to care for a Calathea house plant?

This question is for my parents, who want to know whether they should cut off the old leaves at the base of the plant when they start to dry out.

Yes, most sites recommend cutting or pruning the old brown or crispy leaves as soon as they appear.  Other sites recommend checking the plant each spring to see if it needs to be repotted.  If the roots have wrapped around the bottom it is time to move the plant into the next size pot.

Yes, you should remove any old and yellowing leaves in order to keep a Calathea house plant healthy and beautiful. Removal of old and yellow leaves helps keep your Calathea plant strong and growing.
