How can you tell when a Sunflower is ready to open for the seeds?

    The sunflower is ready for harvest when its head is dried and brown and its yellow leaves have fallen off. The back of the sunflower head should look like a yellow banana when ready. Check the seeds to make sure they’re plump and have black and white stripes. Here’s a picture of sunflowers ready for harvest:
