How can we water forests if we plant them in deserts?

While it is not the most sustainable method, large scale irrigation projects have turned California “desserts” into valuable farmland. Farmers use multiple irrigation methods, diverting water from major waterways and underground wells, to water their crops and feed a large extent of the nation. I am in no way recommending that forests be grown in desserts to be irrigated by water from elsewhere, but if we were to do it, irrigation would be the method.
