The first crucial step would be to build a national clean energy “Smart Grid”. This grid would allow for greater inputs of energy into the system from new sources; the current grid is skewed heavily towards collecting energy from existing sources. For example, there are no power lines and other infrastructure near the sites of wind farms or off the coast for offshore wind. And even if there were, the current grid couldn’t handle the extra input; its strained as it is with the current levels of supply and demand.
