Global warming has been the major cause of melting glaciers. USA Today reported that within the past decade, glaciers have been melting faster than expected in the regions of Antarctica. Glaciers are a major source of water as well, and one method of preventing melting is to reduce carbon emissions that lead to global warming. The Geophysical Research Letters states that if carbon emissions are drastically cut, melting glaciers will only contribute to a seven inch rise in sea level, but if emission rates continue, the rise will be as much as fifteen inches.
