The best thing we can do to save the ice caps is still to cut greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible as quickly as possible in the near future. A recent study by UN experts seems to indicate that the situation facing the ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica is much more dire than they previously believed. Scientists are now saying that a meltdown of the ice sheets may be nearly inevitable. However, they do say that increases in greenhouse gasses will speed the process up even faster. If the meltdown is not slowed down countries will not have enough time to adequately prepare for the rise in sea levels that will occur.
