We can levy a tax on the fertilizers and chemicals they use which are not environmentally friendly. We can give rebates for any company which practices sustainable farming techniques and/or organic farming/feeding. We could also make farmers pay extra – a pay to pollute tax or permit – if they do not meet specific standards of environmental safety… but to be honest, I don’t think farmers – in the general sense – are to blame for damages done to the environment as much as it is the commerce (of the collective: consumer capitalist lifestyle) that is bringing us down (and the excesses of our practices) which lead to environmental degradation.
