DVD packaging is highly wasteful in the fact that the plastic wrap isn’t recyclable in most municipalities. The cases are but the wrap is thrown out more than the cases are. A simple step in lessening the amount of waste is to no longer use the plastic wrap but still use the adhesive label on the top and bottom to make sure the CD is secure, much like DVD cases have these labels on three sides to prevent theft.
Many DVD cases are not used from recycled plastic because the process is much more expensive, but ultimately it is better for the environment. The way to have a DVD to be the greenest it can be is by not making them at all. Downloading, using Netflicks instant, or buying through Itunes involves manufacturing no plastic at all.
