Coralreef.gov provides informatino on the national plan to conserve coral reefs, such as applying marine zoning, such as Marine Protected Areas, to help reduce the impact of human activities on coral reefs.
The bleaching effect on the coral is actually algae death. A lot of this death is caused by human pollution that is making it into the ocean from rivers and streams that feed the ocean or from spills in the open ocean. The algae is the food other small organism that live in the coral reefs who are in turn food for larger organisms and fish and so on. So the algae death is the beginning or massive die outs because of the disruption to the food chain. The biggest problem lies in developing countries that are not treating their water before dumping it back into water sources.
