Snow Leopards are currently losing a lot of land and prey, which are reducing the wild population. In order to protect the snow leopard, land needs to be set aside for the species. Leopards are still hunted for their pelts and other parts, even though trading is illegal. Stricter punishment and increased vigilance will be needed to stop the illegal poaching and trading. Leopards are sometimes killed because they attack livestock on people’s properties. There are wild packs of dogs eating a lot of the leopard’s prey, which may be causing them to go after easier kill. Reducing the wild dog population and making adequate fences or barriers to protect live stock will also help protect the snow leopard. Lastly, is it always beneficial to have breeding programs between zoos to help maintain genetic diversity of the species.
