One option is to support more project based education in high schools. Because the day to day of high school is already full with basic requirements, it leaves little time for individual teachers to integrate new projects into the classrooom. Therefore, it helps when there are community and business supported competitions that provide incentives for students to get together after school to design and build. Thousands of students already participate in such programs focused on physics, math, engineering, etc., now all we have to do is re-focus on green design. In a lot of ways this method also simulates design in the actual workplace and how firms have to compete for various projects.
