One way in which I have heard of greening up any vehicle is converting its diesel engine to bio-diesel. These engines run on vegetable oil or waste vegetable oil, and since the fuel is ultimately cheaper (not to mention, you could stop at almost any restaurant and take their wasted veggie oil for free), it won’t be too harsh on the wallet nor the environment. The only setback (depending on perspective) would be the smell of the exhaust, which smells of fried food. I am a huge advocate for bio-diesel vehicles, however I would hate to drive hungry…
