The tinting, specifically if it is electronic that can be turned on and off, can create large savings. It helps to deflect some of the heat that comes into the buildings, cutting down on the cost of cooling, and then allows the heat in saving on heating. It also allows lot of light in saving on lighting. With new technology the glass doesn’t even need to look dark.
Tinted glass improves the energy efficiency of buildings by better regulating the amount of light (and thus heat level) of buildings. Darker windows allow in less light, which keeps heat levels down during time with high temperatures such as summer. New types of tinted windows can actually change their tint level, so during times with colder temperatures (such as during winter), more light can be let in to maintain heat levels.
