They can be more eco-friendly if you use a salt water cleaning system instead of chlorine. That way you are not adding dangerous chemicals to the environment or your body. Even better are Ionozing systems. Even better than that is turning your pool into a natural pond. I’ve attached links to the latter too.
More eco friendly then a salt chlorinator is an HIDROZONE. That is a hydrolize machine combined with an ozone generator. If you use the salt chlorinator you waste not dangerous chemicals but salt water to the enviroment together with isocianuric acid too. Hydrolize work with water conductivity (low concentration of disolved salts in the water) and ozone destroy all bacteria en virus and it transforms to oxygen, so no chemicals at all.
