How can trees survive through so many different weather patterns, like the really old varieties such as redwoods?

trees are easily adaptable to varying climate changes. they survive through different weather patterns because their cellular structure is rather sound compared to other plants and animals. the redwoods are very old because they survived through their youth and built up a thick bark to protect themselves against the natural hazards.
