One way to recycle shoes is through Nike’s Reuse a Shoe program, which turns donated shoes into reusable material for sports facilities. The shoes are ground up into a few materials. Rubber, from the outsole, is reused as track surfaces, gym tiles, and new Nike products. Foam, from the inner sole, is used as “cushion for outdoors basketball and tennis courts”. The fiber from the top of the shoes is used as padding for indoor synthetic courts. Shoes can be donated at any Nike or Converse outlet.
