An assessment of the effects of sericulture on Bangladesh found that there were “acute” health and environmental problems resulting from sericulture programmes. A major factor for this is the disposal of liquid and solid wastes into the environment. Water samples have shown there is a long-lasting effect on the environment and employees working in different sericulture programmes were found to suffer various health problems due to exposure to environmental pollution and contamination.
