I can’t think of or find any ways that recycling negatively effects the economy. The recycling industry employs over 1 million American and has large economic benefits in trade and material reuse. It takes nearly double the energy to manufacture goods with virgin material than it does with recycled materials.
The economic benefits of recycling are well documented, the environmental benefits of recycling are well documented, I think the research and knowledge exist to allow the question of recycling as a negative to pass on. Recycling is good! But it is also the last resort as a consumer. Reduce your waste first, reuse what you can, compost, and then recycle.
