Cargill, Shell, and Honda have created gasoline from plant waste. They took plant waste, such as corn stalks and pine needles, and created Bioformate. This is an oil that can be used in current gas tanks. Their company, Virent, was aided by the National Advanced Biofuels Consortium, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
