How can organisms be considered producers?

Organisms can be considered producers if they are a part of the food chain that is consumed.  The food chain is very interrelated, and organisms are producers, consumers, and decomposers by nature.  Producers create their own food (through photosynthesis or chemicals), and are at the first level of the food chain.
