How can NASA help us monitor the bee populations?

NASA is working to monitor honeybee populations with something called The Scale Hive Protocol. NASA partners with beekeepers and uses satellite data to establish links to the timing of nectar flow. Currently, this project is only taking place in the mid-Atlantic region, but NASA hopes to create a nationwide network to collect and track data about bee populations nationwide. The main goal is to create and preserve records for long-term archiving.
