How can methane be responsible for the planes and boats disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle?

The theory of methane hydrates, also known as the “Flatulence Theory” is simply a myth – it is not the real cause of the mysterious disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle.  Anyway, the theory states that the methane hydrates, when active release massive amounts of methane into the water, decreasing its density.  This would cause any boats in the area to sink rapidly, because the decreased density of the water would not be able to support the floating boat.  However, this theory is discarded because a) the boat sinking doesn’t happen fast enough for no help signals to be sent out and b) the Bermuda Triangle is not the area with the most methane hydrates.  This theory does not have any explanation for the disappearances of planes.
