Don’t flush any old medications down the toilet. Ask your pharmacist what to do with your old prescriptions; many pharmacies have a program that will take your old meds to be properly disposed of. Keep used needles inside a specially designed sharps container. Do NOT throw old needles away; garbage workers are at risk of getting pricked and contracting a disease, and the biological residue left on the needle can pose a threat to animals that may make their habitats near a landfill.
When in doubt, contact a medical professional. He or she can tell you the best way to dispose of medical waste.
