Your local water supplier is required to notify you if your tap water doesn’t meet EPA safety standards. They are also required to send you an annual water quality report. To find out immediately, use this link to the EPA’s local drinking water information site.
You can also ask your water supplier to test the water directly from your faucet. This will let you know if contaminants are getting into your water after it leaves the treatment facility. Some suppliers do this for free, but if yours doesn’t, you’ll need to locate a state certified lab. For more information you can call the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water hotline at 800-426-4791.
