How can I tell if an insect is in fact endangered?

Insects have not been as thoroughly studied as other types of species, so it would be difficult to tell if a species is endangered on your own. The IUCN Red List (linked at the bottom of the page) is a comprehensive, searchable database of endangered species, so you might want to give that a try. It might also be a good idea to search the internet to search for lists of endangered insect species in your area. It is possible that by comparing pictures of an insect you’ve seen to pictures posted on those websites, you could either rule out or confirm the fact that it is endangered.
