Some major electronic retail stores will accept old computer batteries and recycle them. Places like Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot, Radio Shack. Some of the same big companies will also take and recycle used ink cartridges for you.
For recycling old or broken computers, check with companies like Dell, Epson, Gateway, IBM, etc. to see if they will take the computer. Many computer companies offer recycling programs and will dismantle the computer to recycle any usable parts.
Also, donating an old (but usable computer) is always a charitable thing to do for a nearby school or non-profit organization.
