If you cut the stem (at a slant) quickly after receiving the flowers, they stay longer.I’ve also always been told to remove the leaves that will be under and near the water.
I also put a little sugar in the water, although you can get packets from florists that have sugar, a biocide and an acidifier.
if you cut the stem at about a 45degree angle remove all of the leaves up to the water line then scorch the end of the stem in a hot skillet and add an asprin to the wate your flowers will live twice as long.
