How can I keep my avocados from going bad?

When an avocado is cut open and exposed to air, it begins to oxidize which is why it turns brown. There are several ways to prevent this from happening.  One of the easiest methods is to coat the avocado in citric acid, such as lemon or lime juice.  After this, wrap the avocado in plastic wrap and put it in the refrigerator.  Another method would involve purchasing a product called the eggstrafresh.  It is a device that helps many kinds of foods retain moisture and reduce oxidization.

If you have problems with your avocados going bad before you cut the open, you can refrigerate them as soon as they are ripe. This will help lengthen their edible lifespan.
