Well, the key trigger for a hen to lay an egg is a light stimulus. Sunlight or artificial light works. Also, make sure that they are getting enough “scratch” in their diet so that they have the proper amounts of calcium. Probably any commerical chicken feed will do. Finally, note that you do not need a rooster for the hen to lay. The rooster is only needed if you want the egg fertilized so that it will hatch.
