Some quick suggestions below from Lee Weal, in EHow.
The HubPages has a nice article that give an idea of what you might be getting into. (And it has a couple nice pickies.) This looks to me like a relatively easy, couple hour repair, and the author describes pretty much blow-by-blow what you can expect. For wood doors, at least, the author basically says it’s a tradeoff of personal time vs. an expensive craftsperson.
Problems specific to metal doors are a little more tricky, as you may have figured out. If there a problem the HubPages article can’t fix, in your shoes? I’d phone someone for an estimate. Describe your problem, ask what it might cost. That will also give you an idea of how difficult it is, and what, specifically might be the fix.
