Urban planning deals mostly with making cities greener, and the term “runoff” refers to precipitation and other ground water moving to the oceans.
By planning cities in ways which allow for water to follow natural paths to the ocean, cities may not have as many problems with stormwater flooding and other runoff issues.
Urban planning could also be used to make sure runoff is lead to unpaved areas where natural percolation could occur, rather than being directed to storm drains and paved river ways. Additional greenspaces in urban areas would also facilitate this. Collection vats are another way to control runoff.
