Some companies—Dell is getting the most press at the moment—are dedicating themselves to switching to greener packaging while also reducing unnecessary bulk. Using bamboo and recycled products in their packaging is a major savings for the environment, but Dell’s pledge to reduce excess packaging by 10% over the next 4 years is projected to cut back 20 million pounds of packaging, equating to 150,000 trees. If those 20 million pounds of packaging can be used for other (less bulky) packages, they are saving themselves money, production costs and of course the energy of making more.
This will also save the company an estimated $8 million.
