Unless deaths are reported, a whole LOT of food-related issues do not get the FDA’s attention. The recent media attention on the toxin BPA (bisphenol-A, an endocrine system disrupter) from plastic water bottles is most likely what has caused the FDA to take notice of that same plastic lining in canned foods. Since about 17% of the American diet relies on canned food, this is reason for concern. Studies are showing that this chemical may be in even higher concentrations in cans, than the plastic bottles.
