How can driving slow benefit the environment?

Driving too fast, accelerating, and braking all waste gasoline. Avoiding these can increase your mileage by 33% on the highway and up to 5% in the city. Gas mileage usually decreases once you hit 60mph. Obviously, the less fuel you use, the lower will be the emissions from your car. Transportation is a key contributor to greenhouse gasses.

Not necessarily. It has more to do with the rate in which you change speeds. Braking too fast or accelerating too fast is a bad thing.  Maintain a steady speed when driving, and speed up and brake gradually.  Also, make sure your tires are inflated properly and keep your car properly maintained–that saves gas.
