How can deforestation affect rainfall?

Plants are responsible for releasing H2O in a process called transpiration. Water is excreted from the plant and absorbed into the air. This is part of something called the Hydrological Cycle, which explains the transfer of water throughout the Earth’s systems. If deforestation continues, less water will be given off by transpiration. It is unknown what such an effect would have on the Water Cycle, but one can bet it would not be pretty.
