The Coca-Cola Company and the United Resource Recovery Corporation opened up the largest plastic bottle recycling plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. “Today we turn our commitments into action as we mark a key milestone in our goal to recycle and reuse 100 percent of our bottles and cans in the U.S. and ensure the sustainability of our packaging,” said Sandy Douglas, president of Coca-Cola North America. Once fully operating the plant will produce 100 million pounds of reusable plastic a year. Over ten years the plant will drastically reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released into the air from manufacturing bottles from raw material. This decrease in carbon dioxide will be equal to taking 215,000 cars off the road.
