How can carbon nanotubes be used in batteries?

Capacitors and batteries are similar in their ability to hold and discharge electric potential, a battery stores this potential chemically, whereas a capacitor stores it in an electric field – and for this reason capacitors are more efficient.

With this similarity in mind, a device called an ultracapacitor is used to give high voltage short ‘bursts’ of power. And nanotubes would increase the size to power ratio of these ultracapcitors by allowing them to store energy in an electric field at an atomic level.
