Buying notebooks that are only made of recycled paper is a good way to be environmentally conscious. Also, you can make sure you make good use of your supplies by reusing old notebooks that still have empty pages on them, combining multiple subjects into one notebook, laying out your notes so they take up the most efficient amount of space possible (example: not double-spacing). You can also recycle all your used paper instead of tossing it in the trash.
There are many ways to be environmentally conscious on your way to school as well. If possible, walking, biking, carpooling, or the bus all help lower your environmental impact.
If you pack a lunch, use reusable containers instead of paper sacks and zip lock bags.
You could also use recycling programs at your school, or if there isn’t one try and get one going. Getting recycling bins into classrooms, hallways, and cafeterias makes recycling easy and helps other students and faculty to get into the habit. Bring a reusable water bottle with you to carry throughout the day to avoid using throw-away cups or plastic water bottles. If you use a computer in your classroom, shut it off or allow it to go into hibernate mode when you’re done using it. You can also see if you can check your text books out at the library or purchase them used to save on waste and paper usage.
