One way is to insulate your windows using bubble wrap, with a technique that works on the same principles as greenhouses.
Close your window and spray some water on the glass. Then tape a layer of clear bubble wrap over the window, making sure that the tape forms a watertight seal. This will allow light and heat in during the day, and seal it in at night. This works best on a window that faces the sun during the winter.
