Biomass generates electricity because it puts off CO2 and that gas is harvested to generate energy. While this seems counter intuitive for a green energy source, it actually works out quite nicely. Burning biomass releases less CO2 than burning fossil fuels and the CO2 released is then captured and turned into power so it is a virtually carbon neutral process. This fuel source is still being perfected, although has proven successful in some small electric vehicles. It is not at a point to power long distance travel but could be improved to this point in the near future.
