Throughout the United States there are many companies and many individuals who make and use Bio-Diesel.
Firstly, there are two different types of Bio-Diesel. The first type of Bio-Diesel is made from waste cooking oil. This Bio-Diesel takes used oil that would normally be discarded and recycles it. Within this process the waste oil is treated and then mixed with methanol and a catalyst. From there the Bio-Diesel is washed and then dried. It is now ready to be used as a fuel.
The second type of Bio-Diesel is made from crops grown for Bio-Diesel production. Soybeans are a big market for Bio-Diesel as are other crops. In this process the crops are harvested and the oils within them are extracted. Next the oil is pretreated and then combined with methanol and a catalyst. From here the mixture is washed and dried. After the process is complete it is now ready to be used as fuel.
