The meteor believed to be the cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs is known as the Chicbulub crater. The overal diameter of the meteor itself was about 6 miles wide and it created a crated about 110 miles in diameter. While this impact has been believed to be the cause of their extinction, there are reports now suggestiong extinction didn’t occur for another 300,000 years after the impact of this meteor. It did however set in motion the climate change that would cause the eventual death of the dinosaurs.
