The Gulf of Mexico is about 1600 kilometers (east to west) by 900 kilometers (north to south). This gives it a surface area of about 1.5 million square kilometers! If you’re from America, that translates to about 579,153 square miles, which is about twice the size of Texas!

The depth varies pretty widely, going all the way down to over 4000 meters, but the average is about 1600 meters deep. Scientists think that the Gulf contains somewhere around 643 quadrillion gallons of water! That’s 643,000,000,000,000,000 gallons!
