In principle, the electromagnetic spectrum is infinite.
What we call light is just one segment of the electromagnetic spectrum the goes all the way from gamma rays to x-rays. Visible light is sandwiched between ultra violet radiation and infrared radiation. This falls roughly between wavelengths of .7 and .4 microns in length. The visible light spectrum is usually divided into six colors and in the West we define these as red, yellow, green blue, indigo, violet.
